Follow-up Notes F1 - F6            Election is Over

A – Intro

The election is close, think we have all the facts,

Now it’s just the same old lies and more stupid acts.

I’ve thought on it a lot, and I know what to do,

If you’re interested, I’m glad to share it with you.

A series of these thoughts I am going to write,

To check all of them out, you I’d like to invite;

Either on my FaceBook page or on my website,

All of them together I will post and unite.

In one I will explain, why I can’t vote for Trump,

Onto his bandwagon, I just can’t make the jump;

Another will tell why Clinton I can’t either,

Can’t vote for either one, my vote is for neither.

But there is a statement that I would like to make,

And to make my vote count, a position to take;

Another candidate, I’m going to write-in,

And if you might join me, just maybe we might win.

B - Trump

There are a lot of us who’d like to see a change,

Our gridlock government we wish they’d rearrange;

Along comes Donald Trump, like a breath of fresh air,

He’d deliver changes, if trust him we could dare.

Sorry Donald, I don’t have that much trust in you,

And you haven’t given enough cause for me to;

I didn’t like you back before you chose to run,

You haven’t done a thing for that trust to have won.

A good president, a good person first must be,

And you just haven’t shown that side of you to me;

Idiosyncrasies and persona aside,

You’re still arrogant, egotistical and snide.

I have no confidence in the choices you’ll make,

Don’t think I can trust directions you’ll have us take;

I wouldn’t leave my child under your watch and care,

So I don’t think I want to put my country there.

C - Clinton

Career politicians could be good, could be bad,

Over the years seems like more and more that we’ve had;

No matter what she says, that describes Hillary,

That’s why as President she just won’t work for me.

Even if I get past her record of events,

That really weren’t crimes as she’d like us to convince,

But a conspiracy of heightened scrutiny;

That she can make a change, she hasn’t sold to me.

All of her plans depend on getting enough votes,

That what she wants to do she can cram down their throats;

Republican Congress or rich she wants to tax,

Just force them to comply, there’s sure no way she asks.

No compromise attempt, no solution is sought,

With a gridlock Congress, another battle fought;

So, another four years, of just “same old, same old,”

Sorry, Mrs. Clinton, for this I’m still not sold.

D - Congress

Media attention is all on the President race,

While Congressional offices get barely any news space;

Yet they’re most responsible for our political woes,

So why don’t we hear more about incumbents and their foes.

With all the gridlock and government failure that we note,

There is no good reason for any incumbent to vote;

We establish no responsibility for their blame,

If we keep on voting them right back in, all just the same.

The shake-up that we need is not a crazy President,

But accountability from those who us represent;

Maybe we need term limits, maybe we need something else,

But we don’t need congressmen who just take care of themselves.

Maybe there are some good ones, maybe some who do mean well,

But we really do need a vote that a message does tell;

The message we should be sending that should be loud and clear,

If you can’t work together for us, you’re out on your rear.

E – Write-in

So, I’ve figured out who the election I’d like to win,

And so I’ve decided to cast my vote for a write-in;

This write-in for whom I’ll vote, his last name is “TheAbove,”

And so to further clarify, his first name is “NoneOf.”

“NoneOf TheAbove” is indeed the answer that I’ve found,

To all the political confusion that does abound;

‘Cause the winner in this election that I’d like to see,

Is all the taxpayers and voters, that is you and me.

“NoneOf TheAbove” is a strong statement that we can make,

Not that this election seriously we do not take;

But more serious is our national situation,

And we need it solved with a lot more cooperation.

“NoneOf TheAbove” I will write-in wherever I can,

For President or any congressional race that’s ran;

I sincerely encourage you to join with me as well,

For it is with big numbers that our message we can tell.

F1 - Write-In Follow-Up

Whether a crook or not, Clinton can’t make a change,

And Trump has become even more rude and strange;

Congressional seats that should get more attention,

The distracted media still doesn’t mention.

The election is just a couple weeks away,

And they’re all fighting for your opinion to sway;

So here are a few words that I would like to add,

In case, like me, you still think all choices look bad.

To vote for one of them to avoid the other,

The meaning of your vote the numbers will smother;

The happy winner will smile without any clue,

“Votes against the other are not really for you.”

So, the alternative that I am proposing,

Is a statement vote that could be more imposing;

Maybe to the forefront our discontent we’d shove,

If lots of us chose to vote for “NoneOf  TheAbove.”

F2 – Write-in Follow-up

There are the Clinton-lovers who must vote that way,

And the Trump-lovers who believe all he does say,

The Hillary-haters who think they must vote Trump,

And the Donald-haters who think him we have to dump.

I guess I’m hoping another group still exists,

Who believes the worst choice ever this one consists;

Just maybe somehow, before either one can win,

Can we call it off and start all over again?

The vote will happen, whether we like it or not,

And one of these two will win the battle they fought;

They’ll smile on TV thinking “the country picked me,”

When lesser of two evils they happened to be.

I really don’t want my vote counted for either,

Nor wasted in complete futility neither;

That’s why I’ll be writing in “NoneOf  TheAbove,”

Hoping for enough numbers it will be heard of.

F3 – Write-in Follow-up

Congressional gridlock is one heck of a nasty fight,

It’s headlock on government function is sure a sad plight;

But the President race all the attention is getting,

When it’s the congressional races we should be sweating.

“NoneOf  TheAbove” for all of them I would like to vote,

But in my state a write-in for each of these can’t be wrote;

So I will have to make sure who are all the incumbents,

My vote for the other, their being fired it represents.

Gridlock results because each side has adopted a course,

That their answer or solution on the other to force;

But there’s no solution if the other side still objects

Because both sides will have to live with whatever effects.

We have a lot of problems for which to find solutions,

But from a lot of new sources we need contributions;

Party ties and old sacred cows we need to untether,

And find better ways to get along and work together.

F4 – Write-in Follow-up

This election many have worried and fretted,

That down the toilet we are certainly headed;

That if the wrong candidate the White House does win,

Our country might not ever recover again.

Not that much difference does that choice really make,

There’s not that much impact for either of their sake;

Which of them wins there’s so little consequence of,

There’s no harm in voting for “NoneOf  TheAbove.”

With the continued Congressional dysfunction,

Either of their plans will result in malfunction;

It doesn’t matter what is their desired outcome,

The Congressional gridlock they can’t overcome.

‘Tis the reality we’re facing so sadly,

We need political reform so darn badly;

If a “NoneOf  TheAbove” write-in we can’t make,

Someone other than the incumbent we should take.

F5 – Write-in Follow-up

Seems often that we confuse what we feel and what we think,

Sometimes it’s hard for us to keep our heart and mind in sync.

Do you remember the old scams with the “900” calls?

They’d ask us a survey question that our senses appalls,

So we’d quickly respond to their suggested directive,

When getting the high phone charge was their only objective.

The same is happening in this hot Presidential race,

It’s all personality and not the issues we face;

We’re rushing so fast to vote against Trump or Hillary,

That the very real issues are more difficult to see.

The underlying issue is political reform,

The gridlock government game we can no longer perform;

That is really the reason for Donald Trump’s strong appeal,

But a bad-ass President won’t fix the problem that’s real.

Our ineffective Congress is what we need to address,

“NoneOf  TheAbove” or no incumbents we need to stress.

F6 – Write-in Follow-up

Deep down, I do know that I really am naïve,

The best in others I always want to believe;

The outcome of this election that many fear,

I would like to think there’s not so much danger here.

I would like to believe that whoever does win,

That when their position they accept and begin,

To that position and role they themselves will rise,

The importance of their service they’ll realize.

I’d also like to believe lessons can be learned,

That the meaning behind events can be discerned;

Truly there’s a need for political reform,

With this same two party system we can’t conform.

I hope the problems this election did expose,

A new middle ground may have begun to arose;

Who’ll quit pushing for just one and only answer,

And will communicate, compromise and conquer.

JAT – Election is Over

The election is over, Thank God, not another ad,

But we must live with the results, whether they’re good or bad;

Half of us lost and are thinking “Where are we headed to,”

Half of us won, half of them think “What the Heck did we do!”

A most unusual election this one was for sure,

Perhaps that’s the only thing on which we all can concur;

Where the Country goes from here has a lot of folks guessing,

The concern over that has lots of folks out protesting.

These protests that we’re seeing all seem a bit premature,

It’s not ‘til January change of office does occur;

And before we run out, assuming the absolute worst,

Seems a little benefit of doubt we should extend first.

A lot of things are said in a tough political race,

That may change quite a bit when reality they must face;

Maybe some of our harsh judgment is best to be reserved,

Until it is proven that it is certainly deserved.

9/28/16

We somehow survived this election's first debate,

Both sides claiming victory, they think they did great;

He said, She said; In one and out the other ear,

And ev'ryone heard just what they wanted to hear.

Truth is there was nothing new either of them said,

No clearer picture or more light by either was shed;

More time both did spend on the other casting doubt,

Than helping us see what they themselves are about.

So, supporters on both sides think that it went well,

To those already sold the same hype they did sell;

While those of us undecided still scratch our head,

Wondering how to pick when both sides we still dread.

Do we go with the bully who just says "trust me?"

Or career politician saying "wait and see?"

Can any good change come from just more of the same?

Or will change for change sake miss our desired aim?
